The Philippine Gamma Knife Center is one of the multidisciplinary centers of the Brain and Spine Institute at Cardinal Santos Medical Center. Established in 1998, the Philippine Gamma Knife Center committed to provide the Filipino patient neurosurgical care and technology that was only available outside of the country. Established at a time when few specialists were interested in the field, the Center was envisioned as a center of excellence in Stereotactic Neurosurgery and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) for the Philippines.
At the Center, minimally invasive frame based Stereotactic Neurosurgery is performed. The stereotactic team carries out minimally invasive frame-based stereotactic neurosurgical procedures: biopsy of intracranial lesions, implantation of catheters, aspiration of cysts, evacuation of blood clots, evacuation of abscesses, stereotactic excisions, and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).
The premier activity at the center is Gamma Knife Surgery. In 1998, we started out with a Gamma Knife B Model. Having performed over 2100 Gamma Knife procedures, the multidisciplinary team at the Philippine Gamma Knife Center is the most experienced in the country. In January 2015, the center upgraded to a Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion™.
Worldwide, the Leksell Gamma Knife is the gold standard for SRS and the only Gamma Knife in the Philippines is at Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
